The upcoming singing sensation Tifa was born Latifa Brown on December 12, 1983 in Kingston, Jamaica. Her interest in music developed from a very young age, as collecting records was the hobby of both her parents. She especially enjoyed listening to musical legends such as Earth Wind and Fire, Patti Labelle and Aretha Franklin. Though Tifa now resides in the ‘uptown’ area of Kingston, she spent her younger years living on Duke Street in ‘downtown’ Kingston with her mother after her parents separated in 1986. The environment along with her stepfather Sampalue, the reggae producer who assisted in the building of several music careers such as Lady Saw, gave her a deep rooted love for dancehall music.
